Mysteries, Memories and the Queen of Crime
Agatha Christie’s ingenious plots, memorable characters and cleverly concealed clues have entertained generations of readers and television viewers. These Cognitive Stimulation Therapy activities celebrate the remarkable life and work of the world-famous Queen of Crime.
Born in Torquay in 1890, Christie drew inspiration from her Devon childhood, her travels abroad and her wartime knowledge of medicines and poisons. Participants can explore her life, her connections with Torquay and the experiences that helped inspire her extraordinary stories.
Familiar faces provide several visual challenges. Participants can identify some of the actors who have played Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple, remember favourite television adaptations and discuss which performers they associate most strongly with these celebrated detectives.
A literary challenge asks everyone to complete the titles of famous Agatha Christie books, while a Cluedo-inspired activity invites participants to name the familiar characters, rooms and murder weapons from the classic board game.
Our special Solve the Murder picture mysteries encourage everyone to examine the suspects, notice small details and develop a theory:

Who committed each crime? What was the motive? Which objects, expressions and inconsistencies reveal the truth? Encourage everyone to offer an explanation before showing the accompanying reveal panel.

The activities can be enjoyed as a complete session or selected individually to suit your group. There is no need to be an Agatha Christie expert—the emphasis is on observation, imagination, shared memories, problem-solving and having fun together.
