đŸ—ŒEiffel Tower Day

Eiffel Tower Day celebrates one of the world’s most recognisable landmarks, the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Built between 1887 and 1889 for the Exposition Universelle (World’s Fair), it was originally intended to be temporary - but its usefulness as a radio tower helped save it from demolition. Standing over 300 metres tall, with 1,665 steps to the top, it remains a symbol of French innovation and culture. For CST sessions, it’s a wonderful prompt for reminiscence - holidays in France, iconic landmarks, travel stories, and even engineering marvels.

🌾 CST Song Of The Day – ‘La Vie En Rose’

Our CST Song of the Day is ‘La Vie En Rose’ by Édith Piaf, one of France’s most beloved voices. Piaf - affectionately known as “The Little Sparrow” (La Mîme Piaf) - recorded this timeless song in 1945. Its title translates to “Life in Pink”, capturing a feeling of warmth, love, and optimism.

The song is perfect for Cognitive Stimulation Therapy, as its gentle melody and emotional lyrics often spark memories, conversation, and connection. It can lead to discussions about love, Paris, wartime memories, or favourite songs from the past - helping to stimulate both emotion and recall in a meaningful, enjoyable way.

Gustave Eiffel (1832–1923) was a pioneering French engineer and architect best known for designing the iconic Eiffel Tower. A specialist in metal structures, he combined innovation with precision to create strong yet elegant designs. Beyond the tower, he engineered major projects such as the Garabit Viaduct and contributed the internal iron framework for the Statue of Liberty. Initially criticised for his bold ideas, Eiffel’s work went on to symbolise modern engineering and remains celebrated worldwide for its ingenuity and lasting impact.

The Eiffel Tower is one of the world’s most famous landmarks, standing proudly in Paris as a symbol of French culture and engineering. Designed by Gustave Eiffel and built between 1887 and 1889 for the Exposition Universelle (World’s Fair), it was originally intended to be temporary but was saved due to its value as a radio transmission tower. Rising to over 1,000 feet tall, it was once the tallest man-made structure in the world and features three levels for visitors, including restaurants and panoramic viewing platforms. There are 1,665 steps to the top, offering a memorable climb as well as spectacular views. Today, it attracts millions of visitors each year and remains a powerful icon of romance, travel, and innovation.

Parisian culture is a rich blend of elegance, creativity, and everyday pleasures, centred around life in Paris. It is famous for its cafĂ© culture, where people linger over coffee and croissants while watching the world go by, as well as its thriving arts scene—from street artists in Montmartre to world-renowned galleries. The River Seine winds through the city, offering scenic walks and iconic views, while the historic MĂ©tro system keeps the city moving beneath its streets. Food, fashion, music, and conversation all play a vital role, creating a lifestyle that celebrates beauty, expression, and taking time to enjoy the moment.

French food and drink are celebrated around the world for their quality, tradition, and attention to detail, forming a central part of life in France. From freshly baked baguettes and buttery croissants enjoyed in local cafés to rich, slow-cooked dishes like coq au vin and boeuf bourguignon, French cuisine combines simple ingredients with refined techniques. Cheese and wine are also key elements, often enjoyed socially and paired carefully to enhance flavour. Desserts such as delicate pastries and colourful macarons add a touch of indulgence, making French food not just nourishment, but a cultural experience rooted in pleasure, sharing, and craftsmanship.

Paris is home to some of the world’s most iconic landmarks, including the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, and the Louvre Museum, each reflecting the city’s rich history and artistic heritage. Beyond Paris, France offers an impressive range of landmarks, from the grand Palace of Versailles with its opulent gardens, to the breathtaking island abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel rising dramatically from the sea. Together, these sites showcase France’s blend of culture, architecture, and natural beauty, making it one of the most visited and admired destinations in the world.

There are many wonderful French and French-inspired songs to enjoy alongside ‘La Vie En Rose’, each offering great opportunities for reminiscence and conversation in CST sessions. Classics such as ‘Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien’ by Édith Piaf and ‘La Mer’ by Charles Trenet capture the timeless charm of French music, while ‘She’ by Charles Aznavour became an international favourite. Lighter, fun pieces like the traditional Can-Can from the Moulin Rouge bring energy and movement, perfect for group engagement. Even songs inspired by France, such as ‘Lost in France’ by Bonnie Tyler, can spark memories of travel, romance, and holidays—making them ideal for encouraging discussion, singing along, and emotional connection.
