🌺 CST Activities – Hawaii Flag Day (31 July) 🌺

Aloha and welcome! Today we're celebrating Hawaii Flag Day, a chance to explore one of the world's most beautiful island destinations. Although Hawaii is the 50th state of the USA, it has a unique history, rich Polynesian culture and its own distinctive flag, which even includes the British Union Flag in one corner.

In today's session we'll discover fascinating facts about the Hawaiian Islands, share memories of island holidays and dream destinations, and test our brains with a series of fun quizzes and reminiscence activities. We'll see how many Hawaiian words, traditions and famous landmarks we can remember, discover why surfing became such an important part of Hawaiian life, and hear an unusual story linking Hawaii with crime writer Agatha Christie.

We'll also look at products from Hawaii that are enjoyed all over the world, recognise famous Hawaiians, remember television shows and films set in Hawaii, and reflect on the history of Pearl Harbor and the moving USS Arizona Memorial.

As always, we'll finish with some wonderful music, including Aloha ʻOe, Honolulu Baby, and Can't Help Falling in Love, before getting creative by making colourful Hawaiian flower leis to bring a little tropical sunshine into the day.
