Welcome to Our Indian Independence Day CST Activities
Today, we are celebrating Indian Independence Day, which takes place every year on 15 August.
We will begin by discovering some fascinating facts about Indian Independence Day and listening to India’s beautiful national anthem.
Next, we will test our memories with an Indian general knowledge quiz, followed by the haunting song “Ever So Lonely” by Monsoon. This will lead us to the famous photograph of Princess Diana sitting alone outside the Taj Mahal.
We will then have a memory challenge to see how many famous people associated with India we can recognise, before exploring India’s remarkable wildlife in our animals and nature quiz.
We will discover the extraordinary story of the Koh-i-Noor diamond, then listen to “Norwegian Wood” by The Beatles - the first Beatles recording to feature a sitar, played by George Harrison.
Our next quiz explores films, television programmes and books associated with India. Afterwards, we will enjoy the playful 1960 duet “Goodness Gracious Me” by Peter Sellers and Sophia Loren.
There will then be a tasty Indian food and drink quiz, along with an interesting factoid about India’s love of tea.
We will also listen to “Across the Universe” by The Beatles, with its memorable Sanskrit refrain and connection to the band’s growing interest in Indian spirituality.
Finally, we will finish our celebration with the joyful, energetic “Jai Ho” from Slumdog Millionaire.
Everyone is encouraged to join in with the rhythm and practise a few simple dance moves - either standing or seated. Move your hands, sway your shoulders, tap your feet and enjoy the music!
Let’s celebrate the history, people, wildlife, food, films and music of India together.
