'National Mojito Day' 🇨🇺 11 July

Welcome everyone!

Today we're celebrating National Mojito Day, a fun theme inspired by one of the world's best-known summer cocktails. Don't worry if you've never tasted a mojito - today is about the history, flavours, music and memories connected with Cuba and the wonderful herb mint.

We'll begin with a Mojito Quiz to see what everyone already knows about this famous drink, before discovering some interesting facts about National Mojito Day and learning how to make a classic mojito.

Before we continue, we'll take a quick trip to the Caribbean with our Facts About Cuba slide. We'll discover where Cuba is, learn about its colourful history and culture, and find out why it's famous for classic American cars, lively music, cigars, sugar, rum and beautiful beaches. It's a fascinating country with a rich heritage, and the perfect setting for today's National Mojito Day celebration.

We'll then turn our attention to mint, a familiar herb found in gardens, kitchens and sweet shops.

We'll enjoy a Mint Quiz to test our memories, followed by an interesting mint factoid and a chat about the many foods, drinks, sweets, medicines and household products that contain mint.

No CST session would be complete without some music! Our CST Song of the Day is the much-loved Cuban classic "Guantanamera", one of the most recognisable songs in the world and a wonderful opportunity for a singalong.

We'll also take a nostalgic look at the unforgettable Margarita Pracatan, the flamboyant Cuban cabaret singer whose delightfully eccentric performances became a favourite feature of Clive James' television shows. Her wonderfully camp novelty songs and infectious personality are sure to bring back plenty of smiles and memories.
