'National Radio Day' 📻 20 August
Celebrate National Radio Day with this entertaining and nostalgic collection of Cognitive Stimulation Therapy activities, exploring the remarkable history of radio and the special place it holds in our lives.
We begin with a Let’s Talk discussion and reminisce about favourite radio programmes, presenters, music and memories of listening together as a family. Members can then test their knowledge by completing familiar radio sayings and idioms and taking part in our National Radio Day Quiz.
Discover the fascinating stories behind radio through factoids about Marconi, the use of radio during the Second World War, Orson Welles’s legendary broadcast of The War of the Worlds, and Trevor Baylis, inventor of the wind-up radio.
There is also a BBC DJs memory challenge - can you complete the names of familiar presenters from radio’s golden years?
Our Desert Island Discs Challenge invites everyone to choose ten special songs they would take to a desert island and explain why each one deserves a place on their list. They can also choose an additional book and that all-important luxury item!
