Rest In Peace, David Hockney
Today we remember the life and work of one of Britain’s greatest artists, David Hockney, whose colourful paintings and innovative ideas changed the world of modern art. In this session we’ll explore some of his most valuable and celebrated works, revisit his fascinating 1972 Desert Island Discs appearance, and discover his long-standing admiration for Marilyn Monroe.
Hockney was captivated by Marilyn’s image and legacy. He chose her recording of “I’m Through With Love” as one of his Desert Island Discs selections and later created a striking paper montage of her for the 1984 film Insignificance, inspired by her enduring place in popular culture.
To complement today’s theme, our CST Song of the Day is Marilyn Monroe’s playful and unforgettable “I Wanna Be Loved By You” from the classic comedy Some Like It Hot (1959). We hope these activities encourage memories, conversation, creativity and an appreciation of two enduring cultural icons.
