This week we are celebrating UK National Vegetarian Week - an opportunity to explore healthy eating, favourite foods, traditional recipes and changing attitudes to food over the years. Vegetarian Week encourages people to enjoy more fruit, vegetables, nuts, pulses and plant-based meals while also reflecting on cooking, shopping and family food traditions from the past.

As part of our Cognitive Stimulation Therapy activities, we have created a range of themed slides and discussion activities including:

  • Fruit and vegetable idioms and sayings

  • Facts about vegetarianism

  • “Describe These Diets” healthy eating discussions

  • Naming fruits, vegetables, nuts and pulses

  • Favourite meals and traditional recipes

  • “Would you try it?” food discussions

We have also linked the week to a selection of CST Songs Of The Day to encourage reminiscence, conversation and singing together:

  • Cook Of The House - Wings

  • Green Onions - Booker T. & the M.G.'s

  • The Onion Song - Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell

These dementia-friendly sessions are designed to stimulate conversation, encourage participation and promote wellbeing through music, reminiscence, creativity and shared experiences - all while having fun together and boosting brain power.
