UK STORM NAMES FOR 2026/27 ☔️
Today we’re preparing for the changing seasons by meeting the new UK storm names for 2026/27 and exploring the fascinating world of autumn and winter weather.
We’ll discover who chooses the storm names and why storms are named, before seeing how many of this year’s names we can remember. We’ll also look back at some unforgettable British weather events, including the Great Storm of 1987—often called “Michael Fish’s Storm”—and the Beast from the East.
There are plenty of opportunities to join in, from identifying different kinds of autumn and winter weather to completing the names of well-known weather songs. We’ll also explore the much-loved Shipping Forecast and discover which sea area is closest to where we live.
