Today we’re celebrating World Bee Day - a chance to recognise the incredible importance of bees and other pollinators to our everyday lives. Bees help pollinate many of the foods we eat, support biodiversity, and produce useful products such as honey and beeswax. They also give us plenty of opportunities for reminiscence, discussion, word games, music, nature topics and sensory activities within Cognitive Stimulation Therapy sessions.
For today’s CST activities we’ve explored a whole range of bee-themed slides and discussions, including:
Facts about bees and why they matter
How bees help us through pollination and food production
Bee life cycles, hives and flowers that attract bees
Yellow and black & hexagonal themed picture quizzes
Bee and honey idioms, sayings and expressions
Honey-related foods, drinks and adverts
We’ve also linked the theme to a selection of familiar “bee” and “honey” songs to encourage singing, reminiscence and conversation. Our CST Songs Of The Day included:
Flight of the Bumblebee
Honey Honey by ABBA
A Taste of Honey by Herb Alpert and Tijuana Brass
These familiar songs can help spark memories, encourage group participation and create a fun, relaxed atmosphere for conversation, singing and shared experiences.
