National Superhero Day – 28 April

National Superhero Day is celebrated each year on 28 April and is a fun opportunity to recognise the heroes in our everyday lives as well as the famous superheroes from comics, films, and television.

The day reminds us that real superheroes are often the people who help others - nurses, doctors, firefighters, teachers, carers, police officers, ambulance crews, volunteers, and family members who show kindness, bravery, and support every day.

It is also a chance to enjoy the world of fictional superheroes such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Spider-Man, and many others who represent courage, justice, hope, and helping those in need.

For a Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) session, National Superhero Day can spark great conversations:

  • Who was your childhood hero?

  • Which superhero powers would you choose?

  • Who are the real-life heroes in your community?

It is a positive and uplifting theme that encourages memory, discussion, laughter, and appreciation for the everyday heroes around us.

Discuss Real Life Heroes

When we think of heroes, we often imagine superheroes in capes flying through the sky - but real life heroes are all around us every day.

They may be nurses, doctors, firefighters, carers, teachers, ambulance crews, police officers, lifeboat volunteers, delivery drivers, or simply kind neighbours who help others when they are needed most.

A real-life hero is someone who shows courage, kindness, patience, and compassion. They may not wear a costume, but they make a big difference in people’s lives.

This discussion is a chance to think about the people we admire most.

  • Who has helped you in your life?

  • Who would you call your personal hero?

  • What qualities make someone a true hero?

Sometimes the greatest heroes are the ordinary people who do extraordinary things.

Name These Heroes and Superheroes

This activity takes us on a journey through famous heroes and superheroes from stories, films, television, and legend.

From classic characters such as Superman, Batman and Robin, Robin Hood, and Zorro, to modern favourites like Harry Potter and even the mystery-solving Scooby-Doo, these characters have entertained generations and often represent bravery, adventure, justice, and friendship.

As we look at each picture, see how many you can name. What special skills or qualities did they have? Who was your favourite hero when you were younger? Did you prefer superheroes with capes, or adventurous heroes from books and television?

This is a fun way to encourage memory, conversation, and shared laughter - while discovering that every generation has its own heroes.

Other Hero Songs

Heroes and superheroes have inspired many famous songs over the years, from powerful ballads to dramatic rock anthems. These songs often celebrate courage, strength, bravery, and the people who help us through difficult times.

Some songs focus on fictional superheroes like Superman or Flash, while others remind us of the everyday heroes in our own lives - family members, carers, nurses, teachers, and friends who support us when we need them most.

Music such as Hero, Heroes, Wind Beneath My Wings, and We Don’t Need Another Hero can bring back strong memories and emotions, making them perfect for a CST singalong and discussion session.
