Welcome to my special Never Give Up Day CST Activities, celebrating courage, determination, resilience and the remarkable things people can achieve when they refuse to give up.

We’ll begin by completing some familiar “Never Give Up” sayings and expressions, including “If at first you don’t succeed…” and “When the going gets tough…”

Next, we’ll meet famous people who overcame enormous personal challenges - including disability, serious illness, imprisonment and depression - to achieve extraordinary things.

Our 14-question Remarkable Achievements Quiz explores some of history’s greatest stories of courage and endurance: Scott and Shackleton in Antarctica, Hillary and Tenzing on Everest, Apollo 13 in space, Roger Bannister’s four-minute mile, Bob Champion and Aldaniti, Ian Botham’s charity walk, Ellen MacArthur’s solo voyage and many more.

We’ll also discover the inspiring story of Matt Baker and the Children in Need Rickshaw Challenge, before putting our own perseverance and teamwork to the test with the “Keep Going” Paper Cup Challenge.

Music plays an important part in today’s activities too. We’ll enjoy three wonderfully appropriate songs: Billy Ocean’s “When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Going,” Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up” and Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush’s moving duet “Don’t Give Up.”

There is no pressure to remember every answer or complete every challenge. Simply join in, encourage one another, share your experiences and enjoy celebrating the power of friendship, hope and never giving up.
