World Water Day (March 22) is a global event that highlights the importance of fresh water and the need to protect this vital resource. It’s a chance to reflect on how essential water is in our everyday lives - from drinking and hygiene to food production, healthcare and the natural world around us.
Water also connects deeply with our memories and experiences - rain on the window, holidays by the sea, or simple everyday routines - making it a powerful theme for conversation and reminiscence.
Today’s CST Song Of The Day is “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head” by B. J. Thomas, famously featured in the film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. With its light, optimistic tone and instantly recognisable melody, the song evokes feelings of resilience and positivity — reminding us that even when life brings challenges, we can keep moving forward.
Using this song as part of Cognitive Stimulation Therapy can encourage:
Reminiscence (films, music, memories of rain or travel)
Discussion (weather, daily routines, favourite songs)
Emotional connection (uplifting mood and shared enjoyment)
It’s a perfect example of how music can turn a simple theme like water into a moment of joy, connection and engagement.

You could continue the short CST activity by asking members to bring to mind sayings about water. See how many of these they can get. If members get stuck, you could say the first part of the saying and ask them to complete it.

Continue the discussion by asking members 'Why We Need Water'? See how many of these they can get, or maybe how many they can add to the list.

If you want to continue the session, you could ask members to choose some more songs to sing along with from this list ...
