Today we’re celebrating National Bow Tie Day with a collection of fun, nostalgic and brain-boosting CST activities — all inspired by bow ties, ties and bows.

We’ll begin with some surprising facts about the bow tie, before having a Let’s Talk about ties we remember wearing and the occasions that called for dressing up.

Then it’s time to put those memories to work! We’ll be looking at occasions and occupations where you might expect to see a bow tie, identifying some famous bow-tie wearers, and tackling a word challenge featuring things with “bow”in their name.

And, of course, there’s music! Our CST Songs of the Day include Fred Astaire’s elegant “Top Hat, White Tie and Tails,” Tony Orlando and Dawn’s unforgettable “Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree,” and the wonderfully comic “Puttin’ on the Ritz” sequence from Mel Brooks’s Young Frankenstein.

There’s also a Practical Challenge — have a go at tying a bow tie and a regular necktie. It may look easy when someone else does it, but how much can your fingers remember? And don’t worry — clip-on and pre-tied versions are allowed!

So straighten your collar, adjust your bow tie and join in. How much can you remember — and can you tie a bow tie before we finish?
